BJD (Ball Jointed Dolls) are the latest
phase of doll collecting. Usually made of resin with multiple points of
articulation, and often with multiple body and face options, these dolls have
sparked the creativity of many doll collectors around the world. They buy
them (sometimes the body and head separately), dress them, wig them and give
them "face-ups," or repainted faces. They write stories about
them, create tableaus and take photographs. They get together at
"meet-ups" to share their dolls and creations with other collectors.
For
collectors who want a complete doll with costume, some companies offer the BJD
Fashion Doll.
